Access to safe surgical care remains a challenge for many children and adults in underserved communities, especially those affected by cleft lip and cleft palate. To address this gap, HANDS – Human And Natural Resources Development Society, in partnership with the Operation Smile Foundation, has been implementing a Cleft Care Support Program since 1st April 2022, continuing through 2025–26.
Over three years, HANDS conducted three outreach and screening campaigns across Ananthapur, Kurnool, and Nandyala districts. Through these efforts, 85 patients were identified, of which 45 patients were medically screened and referred for free cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries. Surgeries were performed at Future of Smiles Mission, Bangalore, and Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Foundation, Vijayawada.
By bringing care closer to communities, HANDS reduced travel burdens and financial stress for families. Along with surgical treatment, patients received emotional and social support, helping them heal with dignity and confidence. This initiative has restored smiles, improved quality of life, and reaffirmed the impact of strong local–global partnerships—because every smile matters.
